Spain and Portugal both have autonomous communities in Macaronesia, a region of volcanic archipelagos of the West Coast of Africa. Macaronesia is made of the The Canary Islands, Madeira, The Azores and the country of Cape Verde.
For most people The Canary Islands and Madeira are a winter sun destination with the islands also being a refuelling hub for transatlantic cruises.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Language: Portuguese and Spanish are the official languages respectively of Madeira and The Canary Islands.

Money: The Euro (€EUR) is the local currency across Portugal and Spain. Credit and Debit cards are widely accepted.

Law & Order: Whilst violent crime involving tourists is rare, theft, and petty crime is common across most major cities.

Tax and Gratuity: Sales tax is included in the price of everything you purchase. Hospitality staff do accept gratuities but this is a bonus for excellent customer service.
